Teaching the Browser to send Mail

It's very convenient to be able to send mail directly from the browser, such as when you want to send feedback on the spot about a website using either a a "mailto" link or webpage "form". Note that also many "survey" types of webpages also require proper setup for sending email-equivalent feedback directly from Netscape. Without it, you can get an "out of memory" error, when actually it is not a memory problem. All you need is the server name for the mail/ POP server. e.g. mail.ispprovider.com , and the email address, of the form, yourname@ispprovider.com. Illustrated instructions are provided below for version 4 of Netscape.

  • From Netscape:
  • Open "Edit: Preferences" and select "Mail".

Expand the "Mail" settings options by clicking the "+" symbol to the left of it (circled in green below).

  • Set "Mail & Groups: Identity"
    preferences.
  • Enter your First name, middle initial (if any) and last name.

    Enter your email address.

  • Set "Mail & Groups: Mail Server" preferences.
  • For mail server user name, use "default"

For outgoing mail (SMTP) server, use "mail.yourispprovider.com"

For incoming mail server, use "mail".
